This year, for the first time, Ruckleigh entered a team into the Borcherds Shield Maths Competition for Year 6 pupils at King Edward’s School, Birmingham. Whilst keen to participate, Devan, Jai, Mamta and Asma were nervous as they watched the hall fill up with some of the city’s best mathematicians. After a couple of warm-up activities though, the children were happy and raring to go!

The competition comprised three rounds of various team challenges in which the children often worked in pairs and an answer from one pair had to be quickly given to the other pair of children to be used in their calculations - so it really was team work at its best!

These four bright pupils kept their nerve throughout and really rose to the challenges presented to them. As the top results of fourth to first place were announced in reverse order, the children were truly shocked but thrilled to hear Ruckleigh declared 2nd place winners!
