Feel the Force of World Book Day!
Thursday, 2 March 2017
We celebrated World Book Day 2017 with a 'Science Fiction and Science Fact' theme as part of our Science Week activities. Children and staff joined in the fun, dressing up as everyone from Albert Einstein to Darth Vader! Our visiting author was Nick Arnold who disgusted and amazed us in equal measure in his presentations for Lower, Middle and Upper School. There were no shortage of brave volunteers for Nick's 'Horrible Science' experiments:
- Some children formed a human electrical circuit to light up a bulb.
- A few children were unfortunate enough to get rather wet under various water experiments demonstrating centrifugal forces and surface tension.
- Nasty viruses infected the whole audience in less than twenty seconds of feigned coughing and sneezing in a simulation of how they spread.
- Younger children learnt to communicate in Gorilla language, learnt how a balloon can sing and enjoyed some of Nick's amusing stories about mad-cap inventors and scientists.
Nick also held question and answer sessions and signed copies of his book. He remarked how impressed he was with our children's Scientific knowledge! A super World Book Day was had by all!
