On Wednesday 22nd June, four of our Year five mathematicians headed to KES Birmingham with Mrs Groen and Mrs Shipway to compete against a number of other independent primary schools from Solihull, Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

We started the day with some warm up activities before the first part of the competition which involved working together as a team to complete a numbercross. The team applied all of the techniques we had practised in school in order to successfully answer the clues methodically. The second part of the competition involved a relay race with challenging problem solving questions. We got off to a flying start but time pressure resulted in a few mistakes which lost us valuable marks.

After lunch, we took part in a lesson about coordinates and algebra followed by a maths-themed show from Maths entertainer and founder of 'House of Maths' Barney Maunder-Taylor, the team would love to show you some of the maths 'tricks' they were taught on the day so if you see them in school, please ask for a demonstration!

Finally, the winners were announced, we came fourth overall which was a pleasing result after what had been a busy day and late night with our school performance the previous day.

Well done Rohan, Malak, Thomas and Deepak, you represented our school exceptionally well.
