Year 4 Solihull Fire Station Visit
Monday, 5 October 2015
On Monday morning the children in Year Four arrived at school to a lovely surprise ...an afternoon visit to Solihull Fire Station. They were all terribly excited. Mrs Draper, Mrs Peel and Mrs Shipway accompanied the children on the pleasant autumn walk to the station. On arrival we were met by five fire officers. We were then split into two groups in order to inspect the equipment on a working fire engine. It was amazing to see how many items the engine actually held and how heavy the equipment was. Some of the children were allowed to hold some of the large cutters but only with the help of a fire officer.
The children were then taken outside and allowed to direct a hose towards the training tower. The force of water was amazing. Overall the children, and staff, had a lovely afternoon and learned a great deal about the role of a fire officer. Maybe it will inspire a new career path for some of the children.
