On Monday 7th October, four of our mathematicians from year five: Shahzaib, Kamraan, Ananya and Aarushi attended a Maths Challenge at Princethorpe College with Douglas Buchanan. There were a large number of local primary schools in attendance and the young mathematicians completed six mathematical tasks in 8 minute sessions. Our team from Ruckleigh felt well prepared after completing similar challenges at sessions held with Mrs Groen during lunchtime so the 'broken calculators' were familiar and we confidently completed the tasks. Our main challenge came with tangrams which were 5 piece and 7 piece puzzles, one of our pairs managed to complete the 5 piece tangram but the 7 piece was a challenge too far in the time provided. Although we weren't in the top three places, one of our pairs came fourth and we thoroughly enjoyed our morning whilst expanded our mathematical reasoning skills too.
