Monday 12th of June 2023 will be remembered in the history books of Ruckleigh School Solihull as the first day we took to the field in a competitive girls cricket match. Mrs Collins and I took our Under 10 and Under 11 teams to play 2 games at Malvern St James. It was a gloriously sunny day and the girls were so excited travelling down to Malvern.

In the first Under 11 game it was clear that the standard of cricket played by both sides was very even and the match swung to and fro throughout both innings. Malvern St James eventually edged a thriller 286-277. The Under 10s game was equally as tight with a final ball wicket from Arjoy securing a draw in that match. And so after lunch the teams swapped round. All 4 teams had learnt a lot about tactics and technique from the first match and everyone’s all round game improved. The Under 11s won a tense match 257-255 which was heading for a draw right up til the last 2 balls where Jasmine and Anya hit the 2 winning runs. The Under 10 team battled courageously through their match eventually losing by 24 runs. The day was a huge success and we will continue to push and support our female cricketers and promote their love and enjoyment of the game.
